I’m listening to The Frozen River right now! I recommend the coming of age graphic novel Blankets by Craig Thompson. I recently read Weyward by Emilia Hart and loved it and the big climax is during a blizzard. The Girl Who Speaks Bear by Sophie Anderson has a wonderful wintry setting. It would be perfect to read for Middle Grade March. For winter films I love Beautiful Girls. Yes, it has some problematic storylines, but when snow plow driver Michael Rapaport cries his eyes out while plowing the snow from his ex-girlfriend’s driveway, I lose it. I’ll also recommend Kenneth Branaugh’s A Midwinter’s Tale. Putting on a Shakespeare play in an old Church during Christmas? Yes, please.
You know I'm going to love this seasonal chat, and I hope you do one for every season! I'm in. I dropped the Frozen River like a bad habit, also DNF. Have you read "The Snow Child?" All the feels. A truly beautiful story. And in the thriller category--No Exit. Insanely good.
I got Frozen River as my Book of the Month. I was so excited to see it there - The Midwife's Tale, the history book that Laurel Ulrich Thatcher wrote about Martha Ballard, is one of the books that changed how I read and thought about history.
Though her books happen through all the seasons, have your read Louise Penny's Garmache series? I feel like they are the perfect reading for February and March because no matter the season in Three Pines, you would like to be there!
Last summer I started reading Louise Penny and read the first two (VERY out of season!), but stopped on the third one because it was set at Easter and I couldn't get into the vibe. But now Easter is almost upon us so maybe now is the time!

I haven't read Blankets since high school...I forgot about it!!
I keep meaning to watch Beautiful Girls...I feel like I'm always scrolling past it on some streaming service or another.
Thank you for the recommendations!
Oh, have you never seen Beautiful Girls??? I would LOVE to hear what your thoughts are on it!

Oh, I LOVE the cover of The Snow Child but I haven't read it yet!
