Other, smarter authors use their newsletters to promote their books. You know, the things they spend massive amounts of time on that comprise the bulk of their income. But me…(cracks knuckles)…I like to do things a little differently with my newsletter. I like to write 2,000-3,000 words on an obscure movie and then forget to even mention that I write books.
But not today. Today I’m one of those smarter authors, because I’m letting you know that Faking Christmas, my new rom-com that’s inspired by the classic screwball comedy Christmas in Connecticut, comes out on September 26th. And you can preorder a signed, personalized copy from my local bookstore The Book Loft!
If you click on that link, you’ll see there are a variety of rules for the personalization, chief among them that you can’t request anything inappropriate. Don’t ask me to draw something crude in your book, you pervs.1
But there’s more. If you preorder from The Book Loft, you’ll also receive a special bonus chapter that takes place between the end of Waiting for Tom Hanks and the beginning of Not Like the Movies. I’ve never done something like this before, although I’ve always admired authors who offer up bonus content. For some reason it seemed very intimidating? But then I started writing it and…I had the time of my life. It was so, so fun to revisit Annie, Drew, Chloe, and Nick (and also Uncle Don and Tobin and Dungeon Master Rick and you KNOW Gary had to make an appearance because I miss writing him SO MUCH it hurts…wish I could write a whole Gary book but the world isn’t ready…).
It also made me really sad because I’m not in that world anymore. WFTH came out in 2019! We literally hadn’t experienced Covid yet! By the time NLTM came out in 2020, it was more like Waiting for Tom Hanks to Recover From Covid (groan). I miss these characters and this world because wow is it ever cozy, and it felt like such a gift to revisit them again, however briefly.
I really hope you enjoy the bonus chapter because I enjoyed writing it. And I can’t wait to personalize your books! As long as they’re appropriate requests.
A few other bits of book news:
You can enter to win a print copy of FAKING CHRISTMAS at Goodreads right now!
You can enter to win a BUNCH of wonderful Berkley books!
I have several other events booked that I’ll tell you about very soon (some of them are even outside of Ohio…I know, who am I?), but I wanted to let you know that the Faking Christmas book launch will be at The Book Loft on the book’s release date, Tuesday September 26th.
It feels very right to have The Book Loft involved in this book’s preorder campaign and launch because they’ve been a big part of my career. A scene in Waiting for Tom Hanks takes place in the store and they’ve always been very supportive of my books. I hope to see you there, and I’m not just saying that…I always live in fear that no one will show up to an event, because that happens sometimes. It’s way more fun if people show up and you can ask me questions and we can talk about our favorite Christmas movies in September.
Okay, that’s it! I’ll be back soon with another entry for Flashback Summer, my series where I rewatch my absolute favorite movies from high school and college and see if they still hold up. This week: Me and You and Everyone We Know. Also coming up: the monthly roundup for paid subscribers! See you soon. xo
Okay but seriously I’m glad that rule exists, not that I think any of my readers would abuse it. I’m SURE there are some weirdos who’ve requested something inappropriate in the past!
Please mark me down as VERY READY for a Gary book
