Gilmore Girls has been one of my favorite shows since college. By then the first few seasons were on DVD, in those thick books that held episode guides and even a guide to all Rory and Lorelai’s pop culture references. I wish shows still did stuff like this, but these days fun DVD extra booklets are basically within the purview of the Criterion Collection and no one else.
I would get under my reversible hot pink/neon green duvet cover (why), put a disc into my giant, loud, overheating laptop, and let the piano tinkle of the WB logo wash all the worries of my day away.
Getting a D on my first geology test because I didn’t yet understand I needed to study for more than five minutes in college? Not a problem. Being dumped again by the same guy who wore a puka shell necklace (only happened twice, but felt like it was a more frequent occurrence, like perhaps it’s still happening even now)? Forget about it. Feeling kind of lonely and weird and like I should be “out” somewhere, but instead I’m alone in my room again? Sorry, I can’t hear you, Carole King is singing about the seasons and I live in this sepia-toned credit sequence now!
