You know what I’ve never done? An introduction post. Not just introducing me, necessarily, but introducing you. I always love seeing your comments and likes, but I realized that, in some cases, we haven’t really met. Or perhaps we have but I still don’t know the truly important things about you (your favorite films). So how about we introduce ourselves? I think we can skip the icebreaker introductions because I hate icebreakers (share a fun fact about myself? There ARE no fun facts about me!) and skip right to the good stuff: movies, books, and TV. I would love to hear your answers to these crucial questions:
What are your four favorite movies (your Letterboxd top four, in other words)?
What is your favorite book of all time? I’d love to hear why if you’re so inclined.
What TV show are you currently watching?
Here are my answers:
I shouldn’t have asked this because it’s so hard, but right now my top four are: You’ve Got Mail, Tootsie, All That Heaven Allows, and The Worst Person in the World. But that’s just today!
This one’s easy. Early Morning Riser by Katherine Heiny. I’ve read it once, listened to it once, and every day I think, “Should I just start reading it again?” For me, this book is the perfect blend of being genuinely VERY funny while also being so open about how flawed people can be. It’s also a good reminder that the hard, frustrating parts of life aren’t barriers or burdens…they’re the entire point.
The reason I’m asking you this is because I’d like to be watching a good show! My problem is that I have a harder time getting into TV than I do with film. Hollis and I have been very slowly watching How To with John Wilson on Max. We watch one episode whenever we feel like it so we’re only on season two and we still have PLENTY to go. I’ll be so sad when it’s over for us because it’s a perfect show.
Okay, your turn! Looking forward to hearing your answers. See you next week when I’ll be discussing perhaps the most iconic film we’ve encountered yet: the video for the Backstreet Boys classic, The Shape of My Heart.
Are we all just here because You’ve Got Mail is in our top movies? Seems like it!
1. My favorite movies are Dirty Dancing, You’ve Got Mail, Grease, and Now and Then.
2. My favorite book is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Every time I finish it, I just want to start it over. The first time I read it, I felt like it had always been a part of me.
3. BIG BIG BIG recommendation for Taskmaster on YouTube. Family friendly! Truly hilarious. Start with season 2, just because the first episode of that season is a perfect hook/example of what the show is like.
Chiming in because this is fun!
1. Movies: Step-Brothers, Meet the Parents, A Christmas Story, and Klaus.
2. Book: "Watermelon" by Marian Keyes (my first introduction to the romcom)
3. What We Do in the Shadows (on Hulu). Hilarious.
